Your Best Yet! (Although, it won't be soon...)

You know, I just can't understand why you can say that the whole leaving thing was just a fluke... two accounts to review is... a lot of accounts.

Anyways, off that subject. You failed to suprise me again, as this was, like usual, off the charts amazing.

Criticisms:
- A bit too... beaty? It's your style though, can't criticize it well.
- The background sound is quite repetitive.

Praises:
- Sounds like a warchant, nearly, on a battlefield, until the awesome instruments open up. Simply... stunning job on the effect!
- Most of the sounds are dazzling.
- Suspensful.

I wish I could make music like this, but considering I'm about as good as a giraffe eating seaweed at the bottom of the ocean, it won't happen anytime soon: I'd have no idea what I'm doing.

On the other hand, I'm somewhat annoyed at you for "leaving" and "deciding" to have a new account. Can't you just use the old one? :/

Still love your songs though!

MaestroRage responds:

I did it all for a reason Nomander, and I suppose i've collected enough data to begin slowly forming my story to tell all of Newgrounds. I've been running a series of experiments to see how the crowd of Newgrounds really works, and though most of my predictions and results were "well DUH!" material, some of it was actually quite interesting.

I'm glad you liked the piece. It is still one of my best, but I am already in the midsts of creating something which I think is better! I hope you will agree ;). I figure it will be the war themes to end all war themes :O.

Anyways, thank you for the review, all in good time, you will understand ^^.

A Brilliant Farewell?

Though short, like most of your songs, I'm simply awe-struck at its quality. Quite a farewell, I suppose!

Not as diverse as some of your other pieces, but in this case, I think that's a good thing. For once, simpler is better.

You've possibly put together one of the most suspense-building pieces on Newgrounds. It combines a good beat, a bit of fast paced music, and makes an overall interesting piece of work.

I do think that eventually, you could've changed the background so it wasn't as repetitive, but the melody did more than enough.

Great work! (And, this had better not be the last...)

A Masterpiece

It is rare that pieces of such caliber find their way to sites like Newgrounds. However, like all pieces, there is always criticism (sadly).

It starts off with a bang, which I must admit, I enjoyed. But once you get into the middle, it soudns a bit... less balanced? I'm not an audio expert, but I can tell something feels out of place. Like the chorus perhaps? I can't place a finger on it, but something's wrong that I can't figure out. Which means it's pretty damned small.

On the whole, I was quite impressed. The chorus for the most part sounds incredible, though at sometimes, unneccessary. (If it isn't a chorus, it's... not good)

Overall, this was still one of the best pieces I've seen on this site, and I hope (unlike one of your songs say...) that this will NOT be your last piece on Newgrounds!

Race for the Top!

In the top 10 for all 1,180 Classical pieces is quite a swell feat, that I'm sure you're happy about.

This piece definitly belongs to be in there. It longs you in, with its soft moments, and its hard-line beat.

Good piece - you obviously put lots of time into this - and it came out. If you can only make four more like this one...

MaestroSorrow responds:

I honestly didn't plan to make anymore, because there seemed little interest, however I have been looking for a few reasons to make more battle themes... maybe I will make a few more.

Many thanks for the review Nomader ^^.

10 is a low number

Many pieces of audio pop up. Often, due to the amount of work put into advertising the Flash Portal, the Audio Portal is ignored - a very sad thing indeed.

It's pieces like this that make me come up. It seems never to end, even though I'm sure I've listened through it three or four times - I can't tell!

The diversity in this piece is lovely - I'm not sure if you actually use an orchestra or what, but it sounds like you plopped one up in your backyard.

3.77 is the worst score I've ever seen for something so magnificent.

K&K! Wow!

I've been at NG for a long time. Nowadays, I pretty much never give straight across 10s. This is just incredible. It sounds like you put an entire orchestra in your backyard (I think you did), conducted to them, recorded it here, and posted it. Seriously, if it was an orchestra, you could get good money off of concert halls. This is possibly one of the best pieces of music I've EVER heard. I listen to this, the trumpets... etc. blaring in the background - it's just so... so... amazing. You have the brass blaring, drums in the background, the percussion is incredible... and is this for a flash? If it is, then I simply cannot wait!

Please, I'm not sure if your reading this review. But these are some of the best tracks I've ever heard. You might possibly be one of the best on NG. So, please. Continue making these things - their quality is incredible, and your submission (if your making one) should be amazing... if this song gives you publicity, if a flash (again if your making it) goes front page, you'd deserve it.

Welcome to the most amazing audio submissions NG has ever seen!

Edgen responds:

'WOW! Thank you so much for the kind and inspirational words! I'm honored that you liked the track and I hope that you'll continue to keep checking back in on some new music. Just simply help out by spreading the word... Someone's gota be listening out there. all the best, /j

Ech!

Great song, Doctor Mario - it's a classic.

However, let me critique your "version" of it.

As I listened, in the beggining, it sounded great. Wonderful. Then these "bwadebwadebwoops" came in, and sounded terrible. They kept coming at a horrible pitch too. I know what it's supposed to sound like, and it was nothing like this... blech...

Anyhow, nice to see a "Mariomusicmaker" - I once was Mariofan22 XD

Nice work - but this has DEFINITE room for improvement.

March... left, right...

The beggining is the first things that pops out (no duh!)

You listen as the drums march, and what seems to be an amazingly placed mellow dramatic choir in the background.

This is amazing. Words cannot express how awesome this is.

But amazing is still far from perfect. Here's why.

The drums were too quiet - you should've begun to beat it a bit louder, maybe build up the suspence a bit more.

Anyhow, nice work!

Diabolo-ical responds:

Hmm, I see what you're saying, but believe it or not the drums would've sounded WORSE if they were much louder! I'd have to fiddle with different levels of reverb and such, because they don't sound exactly how they should otherwise. Anyway, Thanks for this review. A nice realistic rating!

Rather sweet-hearted?

I was listening to this - it's just to happy, too slow. The entire reason why the other one was it's fast paced good ol' sound.

Although, I give you credit - I never would've done this XD

Of course, this is better than anything I'd ever do.

Diabolo-ical responds:

No, this song has almost the exact same tempo. I based this on the original theme, so practically every note is the same and is in the exact same place... anyway, thanks for the review. :D

I don't think this is the best you can do

liljim - I don't know what'll happen to me if I don't make a good review here, but I'll do my best.

Ok, for starters - it sounded like some sort of Punk/American Idol song - it's like you plucked Kelly Clarkson with a bad throat out of the crowd, and forced her to sing. Although, you did say she had a cold, so it would fit this problem well.

Next, the band in the background music was quite good, but... with the singer, who seemed to be singing at the wrong parts (seems that the singer's singing high at lower parts, and... no offense, but could've been much better), the music didn't go right.

And I couldn't really understand the words to this song. It seemed again, the singer was dropping off a bit too quick for me.

On the bright side, the song actually sounded alright at some points (when the singer was with the song), and when the refrain came up (there was one... right?) - the singer and the band definitly came through then.

This is my step by step review, liljim... hopefully, I reviewed it well, and I'm sorry for the harsh criticism... sorry!

liljim responds:

All of these tracks were recorded 4 years before American Idol was even conceived.

Not sure what you mean with the rest of the stuff - "seems that the singer's singing high at lower parts" - does that mean that a vocal line should follow a bass progression? If so, what if the bass line had been an octave higher, would that make it ok?

You mention "refrain", when what I actually think you mean is "reprise".

Don't ever apologise for giving your opinion, particularly when you do so with civility. I really do appreciate feedback on these tunes, but you must keep in mind that these were recorded nearly 8 years prior to them being uploaded here.
